
Dr. Kartik Kumar, MD
Dr. Kumar specializes in all areas of pediatric ophthalmology, including strabismus, amblyopia, eyelid ptosis, and cataracts.
Kartik Kumar, MD, joins us after serving as the Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, TX.
Dr. Kumar graduated Magna Cum Laude from Washington University in St. Louis, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry with a biochemistry concentration and Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology. He completed his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, serving as chief resident.
Dr. Kumar pursued a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He spent 4 years as the Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Strabismus at UTHealth in Houston, where he was awarded the Dean’s Teaching Award and was selected as the Teacher of the Year by the ophthalmology residents.
Dr. Kumar has numerous publications and was noted to be one of Houston’s magazines “Top Docs” in ophthalmology and is board certified in Ophthalmology.
His research interests include visual development, amblyopia, and the treatment of strabismus. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS).
Dr. Kumar was featured on the TLC show, OutDaughtered, and performed strabismus surgery on one of the quintuplets, Hazel.
Dr. Kumar enjoys traveling, watching and playing sports, and spending time with his wife and three children in his spare time.
